Employer Engagement
Jump to:
Recent global events and subsequent downturn have emphasised more than ever the role that we all need to play in the nation’s economic recovery. For many years, education providers have been engaging with employers, developing knowledge and technology transfer partnerships, creating spin-off enterprises and working with voluntary and community groups. Yet few HE and FE institutions have taken a whole-organisation approach to such engagement in order to maximise returns. Part of the JISC Funded BCE programme looks at this range of issues.
There are still barriers to overcome in terms of understanding that JISC and its many services can provide a range of resources for institutions that support employer engagement activities. A number of staff who fulfil different roles within the business and voluntary sectors, and who are engaged in delivering the BCE agenda, may well not be aware that JISC TechDis has a suite of productivity tools and techniques that are freely available to them.
Traditionally, JISC TechDis might have been perceived as the service to contact for advice on technology if an organisation had a disabled member of staff. However, in many cases colleagues, whose work is associated with external engagement activities, are unaware of the benefits of using technology for a much wider base of users, which in turn supports the business and community agenda.
