Accessible Mobile Content

Jump to:

Although there are many advantages to mobile learning for users, particularly the convenience of being able to access resources ‘on the go’, practitioners can be wary of creating mobile resources for fear that it will be technically difficult, time consuming and that the resources may be inaccessible.

In fact it can be relatively quick and easy to offer effective mobile resources using everyday technologies, or freely available Open Source software. Upwardly Mobile – Getting Started in Inclusive m-Learning is a comprehensive guide to exploiting the benefits of mobile learning and overcoming some of the barriers it presents.

There has been much investment and talk of mobile content since the surge in personally owned mobile devices has occurred. JISC TechDis has been involved with many schemes and large funded programmes where mobile learning and the generation of suitable content has been an issue. In all cases JISC TechDis has been an advocate of m-learning and the creation of content, as in many cases it is a unique way of delivering personalised learning which is highly accessible and innovative in its approach.
