Accessibility and Mobile Learning

Which technology are most users likely to possess, that is already adapted to their needs to some degree? Mobile devices including mobile phones provide one of the most flexible delivery mechanisms for a variety of information, enabling users to access content in a range of formats wherever and whenever they choose.

However, there are understandable concerns regarding the use of mobile devices in teaching and learning. There may be accessibility issues for learners resulting from the screen size and small buttons (or lack of buttons for touchscreen devices). Teaching and learning staff may lack the confidence or technical skills to create mobile learning resources, or to support learners who have difficulty accessing them.

JISC TechDis has created a range of materials to support staff and users who wish to engage with mobile learning (most often referred to as m-learning) ranging from a DVD and online toolkit Upwardly Mobile to case studies demonstrating how mobile technologies can be used in innovative ways to improve teaching and learning.
