Downloads and Tools to Help

Alongside our advice and guidance, JISC Techdis provide a range of tools for both users and practitioners useful in the context of teaching and learning, together with corporate functions and providing tools to aid the world of work.

The products range from an e-learning object generator to easily create highly interactive and accessible content, materials to support staff development for a wide range of roles with an emphasis on making the most of what you already have, to resources to help understand the accessibility of Web 2.0 and many, many more.

AccessApps, an initiative supported by the JISC Regional Support Centres and JISC Techdis, is a suite of Open Source assistive technology and productivity tools that can be run directly from a memory stick, requiring no installation and therefore providing flexibility for the user. These free tools can be installed as a package, or alternatively users can “pick’n’mix” from the tools available.

Xerte is an Open Source learning object creation tool developed by the University of Nottingham and supported by JISC Techdis. Designed for teaching practitioners, Xerte Online Toolkits offer a simple way to create interactive, engaging and accessible resources.

Xerte is free to download and can be run from a memory stick on an individual computer or installed on a server for use throughout an organisation. An online “sandbox” area is available for practitioners who wish to get started with this useful tool. A developer version of Xerte is also available for technically skilled users who want to develop their own templates.

MyStudyBar is a selection of the best of AccessApps from Regional Support Centre North East Scotland that runs as a small toolbar and offers key reading and writing support tools.
