Whilst the core JISC Techdis remit is in education and training, the principles of technology being used as a tool for social mobility and inclusion is one that find resonance in many other public services.
Public libraries experience many of accessibility and inclusion concerns shared by academic libraries. JISC Techdis focus groups have included public library personnel and public libraries have been involved in our online accessibility self evaluation service. Additionally our links with library associations such as CILIP, CLAUD and the Open Rose group provide an important two way flow of information.
Local authorities have accessibility and inclusion high on other agendas including adult education services, schools, business support and community development. Our guides and resources have value for a wide range of projects from free and open source assistive technology supporting community based IT provision through to tools creating engaging, accessible content for heritage services or adult education.
Within schemes in Sheltered Housing there is a need to consider the provision of enabling technologies such as AccessApps and the support of the champions within the Housing Scheme. Working with the National Institute of Adult and Continuing Education on such schemes as Lets Get Digital will be extremely beneficial as JISC Techdis believes its existing portfolio has much to offer at low or no cost to other sectors.
